Under California law, in order to make a change to a divorce agreement, it is necessary to show a "substantial change in circumstances." For instance, if one parent loses his or her job, receives a major increase (or decrease) in pay, or develops a serious health problem, it may be necessary to modify child support, custody or spousal support arrangements.
